# 108 ZLTO

Concern designs the interior of ZLTO's head office in cooperation with de Architekten Cie

Design practice Concern was invited by de Architekten Cie to design the office interior for ZLTO (southern agriculture and horticulture organisation) in Den Bosch. This included the restaurant, auditoriums, lounge areas, meeting rooms and various work stations on all levels. With the design, Concern focused on staff and visitors, taking into account sustainable production methods, lifespan and user applications. The task was approached from a sustainable viewpoint, with a great deal of attention paid to safety and security, energy efficiency and innovative ways of working.

Building & Interior
The building – designed by de Architekten Cie – gives ZLTO a modern presence, with the facade reminiscent of waving fields of grain and barns, whilst at the same time being a state-of-the-art, representative office building; an embassy for agriculture with a clubhouse atmosphere. By situating vast open spaces with stairwells along the elevation, visual contact is possible between all floors. These spaces function as informal meeting places, helping to promote and stimulate the new world of work. The entrance projects a warm welcome to the visitor with its comfortable informal atmosphere; leather sofas in combination with an open fireplace illustrate the zlto approach. The restaurant extends an invitation to enjoy lunch, and the long wooden benches encourage interaction and conversation. Multi-tasking work points furnished with printing and copying facilities also function as informal gathering points and are located throughout the building. The expressive timber roof structure, complemented by the arched vertical window bands, impart character to the clubhouse.

Sustainable design carpet
One example of Concern's intensive, sustainable approach is expressed in the tailored-to-fit carpets woven by M.I.D. Carpets. Designed by concern, the patterns refer to the diversity of the dutch agricultural landscape. The carpet is produced with sustainable and natural raw materials, such as laneve wool and rubia dye. Agricultural landscape
The diversity of the agricultural landscape is integrated into the building's floor plan. This is set out based on the old principle of the field paths; a colourful patchwork of numerous small plots of land adjacent to a central path extending from behind the farm buildings. This approach has been laid out across all floors, with each subsequent floor becoming more formal and functional.
