#139 Christmas Canal Parade In December 2010, Amsterdam celebrated Christmas with the Christmas canal parade, the theme being ‘lights of the world’. Numerous saloon- and cruise boats were stylishly decorated in Christmas style by renowned design agencies and artists, including Aziz and Eric Staller. Concern also created a lighting design for one of the flatboats, using thousands of shimmering red lights. On 10 December, mayor Eberhard van der Laan gave the starting signal for the winter magic Amsterdam event, and the lights on thirty boats were turned on. The highlight was the specially designed lighting of the Magere brug spanning the Amstel river. This fairy-tale event on the Amsterdam canals created the ultimate Christmas spirit amongst young and old, and everyone could join in. On 23 December between 19:00 and 22:00, the flotilla made its way through the canals. |
